The Last Days in Jerusalem

Follow the events from Jesus' coming into Jerusalem to his being taken up, through the temple, the table, the garden, the hearings, the cross and the tomb. Step through them one event at a time.

The disciples brought the ass and the colt and he sat thereon, and the multitudes cried, “Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord”; when he was come into Jerusalem, “all the city was stirred” (Matt 21:6-10).

Jesus entered into the temple of God and cast out all them that sold and bought, and said, “My house shall be called a house of prayer: but ye make it a den of robbers” (Matt 21:12-13).

Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests and said, “What are ye willing to give me, and I will deliver him unto you?” They weighed unto him thirty pieces of silver (Matt 26:14-16).

When even was come he was sitting at meat with the twelve disciples and said, “One of you shall betray me”; Jesus took bread and blessed it, and took a cup and gave thanks (Matt 26:20-21, 26-27).

Jesus came unto a place called Gethsemane and took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and prayed, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass away from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt” (Matt 26:36-39).

While he yet spake, Judas, one of the twelve, came with a great multitude with swords and staves, said “Hail, Rabbi,” and kissed him; then they laid hands on Jesus and took him (Matt 26:47-50).

They led Jesus away to the house of Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered; the chief priests and the whole council sought false witness against him (Matt 26:57, 59).

Peter followed afar off unto the court of the high priest; he denied three times, “I know not the man,” and straightway the cock crew, and he went out and wept bitterly (Matt 26:58, 69-75).

The whole company brought Jesus before Pilate, who asked, “Art thou the King of the Jews?” and said unto the chief priests and the multitudes, “I find no fault in this man” (Luke 23:1-4).

Pilate sent him unto Herod, who questioned him in many words, but he answered him nothing; Herod with his soldiers set him at nought and sent him back to Pilate (Luke 23:7-11).

Judas, when he saw that Jesus was condemned, repented himself and brought back the thirty pieces of silver, saying, “I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood”; he cast down the pieces of silver into the sanctuary and went away and hanged himself (Matt 27:3-5).

They came unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, The place of a skull; when they had crucified him they parted his garments, and over his head they set his accusation written, “THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS” (Matt 27:33-37).

When even was come, Joseph of Arimathæa went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus; Joseph wrapped it in a clean linen cloth and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock (Matt 27:57-60).

As it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the sepulchre; the angel said, “He is not here; for he is risen, even as he said” (Matt 28:1, 5-6).

Two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus; Jesus himself drew near and went with them, but their eyes were holden; when he broke the bread, “their eyes were opened, and they knew him” (Luke 24:13-16, 30-31).

On the evening of the first day of the week Jesus came and stood in the midst of the disciples and said, “Peace be unto you”; after eight days Thomas answered, “My Lord and my God” (John 20:19-20, 26-28).

Jesus manifested himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; Simon Peter said, “I go a fishing,” and when day was now breaking Jesus stood on the beach (John 21:1-4).

The eleven disciples went into Galilee, unto the mountain where Jesus had appointed them, and he said, “Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations” (Matt 28:16-19).

As they were looking, he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight; then they returned unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet (Acts 1:9, 12).
